Migration

Migration Program

There is large scale migration from Bahraich and Shrawasti as there are very few opportunities of earning in the districts except from patchy agriculture labour. The agriculture is stagnant and unable to absorb the surplus labour.

Trust Community Livelihoods (TCL) is implementing a program with rural migrants in four blocks of these districts. Under the programme TCL has set up migration resource centers called “Äpna Sewa Kendras” (ASK) that provide financial inclusion and social inclusion services. With migrants being away most of the time their families are often excluded from the social schemes (BOCW registration, pension schemes, ration cards, scholarships, etc.) of the government. ASKs have been set up in remote location and cover about ten Gram Panchayats each. They further outreach through camps and network of volunteers in the villages. ASK have been established around CSC entrepreneurs and are sustainable. TCL has reached out to over 30,000 migrant households in less than three years.

This endeavour is supported by Tata Trusts.
